The new training concept for the Class B driving license
After driving school training, you are allowed to drive vehicles with a manual transmission, although part of the driving training and the driving test were completed on an easy-to-drive automatic vehicle. This is now possible with the new driving license class B197!
Part of the training takes place on an easy-to-drive automatic vehicle
The driving lessons on the shift vehicle are integrated into the training (approx. 10 driving hours)
A 15-minute test drive with your driving instructor serves as proof of shifting skills
The driving test takes place on an automatic vehicle
After the test you are allowed to drive manual and automatic vehicles

Since the beginning of 2020, it has been possible in Germany to obtain a Class B car driving license to drive light motorcycles (displacement 125 cm³, nominal power 11 kW, power-to-weight ratio max. 0.1 kW/kg) by taking part in special driver training ) to expand.
The authorization is proven by entering the key number 196 for class B and is only valid in Germany. Travel abroad is not possible.
Minimum age 25 years
Continuous prior possession of a Class B driving license for at least 5 years
Successful participation in driver training in theory and practice at a motorcycle driving school by a motorcycle driving instructor (can start at the age of 24)
Submission of the certificate of participation in driver training to the driving license authority responsible for the applicant's place of residence. The period between the completion of the driver training (= date of the certificate of participation) and the entry of the key number 196 must not exceed one year.
